The Future Will Be Captioned

YouTube is opening up its auto-caption feature to everybody, a move that benefits not only deaf users, but also people who watch videos in really noisy places, like airport terminals. Auto-captioning borrows some text-to-speech algorithms from Google Voice Search to automatically create captions upon viewer request. Viewers can even choose an option to translate those captions into any one of 50 different languages and all in just a couple of clicks.

YouTube New Content Filter

A new content filter called "Safety Mode" has been introduced by YouTube lately. The interesting part is it can help parents screen out content they may think as offensive like sexually suggestive clips and graphic violence. It also hides all text comments by default. To use the filter, just scroll to the bottom of any YouTube page and click "Safety Mode is off" on the bottom left. Click "On" and "Save" to activate the filter. The filter only works whenever you are logged-in and once you're logged-out, the filter is deactivated.

Parisian Love

I found a wonderful Google video on YouTube today called "Parisian Love". It is an advertisement to promote the features of Google search engine. As far as I know, they run this ad during the Super Bowl which means this is the first Super Bowl advertisement by Google. I think it's cool so I post it here.

YouTube Surpasses 100 Million U.S. Viewers For The First Time?

According to comScore, during January 100.9 million viewers watched 6.3 billion videos on YouTube.com, which means on average 62.6 videos per viewer. YouTube.com accounts for more than 99% of all 6.4 billion videos viewed within Google Sites. YouTube was bought by Google in 2006 for $1.65 billion. Ironically, there was no online video with the announcement.

Some other findings:

• More than 147 million U.S. Internet users watched an average of 101 videos per viewer in January.
• 76.8 percent of the total U.S. Internet audience viewed online video.
• The average online video viewer watched 356 minutes of video (approximately 6 hours), up 15 percent versus December.
• 100.9 million viewers watched 6.3 billion videos on YouTube.com (62.6 videos per viewer)
• 54.1 million viewers watched 473 million videos on MySpace.com (8.7 videos per viewer).
• The duration of the average online video was 3.5 minutes, up from 3.2 minutes per video in December.
• The duration of the average online video viewed at Megavideo was 24.9 minutes, higher than any other video property in the top ten.

Many YouTube clips are audio only and virtually all computers come with a function for recording audio as an MP3 file, It is suggested that the person reading the entry has somewhat of a "radio voice" as delivery is everything in such a promotional attempt. A droning or dull voice will drive people away rather quickly. But, a well read audio clip may drive a ton of traffic to your blog!
