Understand These Online Insurance Quote Services

by : Cole

Comparison shopping for your coverage is very necessary when it comes to car insurance. Rates vary by the hundreds which makes your choice to shop around a smart one. Today there are so many insurance quote services, it's good to be aware of how some of these quote systems work. You'll find the most common systems include online comparison raters, captive quote systems and local comparison quote systems.

Online Comparison Raters

These quote systems are some of the best online. They give you the ability to request quotes online and view rates between companies side-by-side. In most cases, online comparison raters are set up with Independent Insurers. These companies include Travelers, The Hartford, Progressive, Metlife and several others. I have not yet come across an accurate comparison rater that supports both Independent and Captive insurance companies.

Captive Insurance Quotes

Getting a quote from a Captive Insurer is another option. Captive Insurers include Companies such as Farmers, Statefarm and Allstate. Captive Agents who represent one of these companies usually don't represent others like an Independent Agent would. This does not mean a Captive Insurers rates are less competitive, you just won't be able to compare rates side-by-side at the completion of the quote.

Local Quote Comparisons

Some insurance quote systems are geared to help you retrieve quotes from a few local Agencies. Although this is an effective way to compare rates of several companies, you may find the process to be a little too much to handle.

The Insurance Quote Process

One way I like to get quotes is by simply requesting one quote from an independent company and maybe a couple Captive Insurers as well. If you get a quote from an Independent Insurance company you'll have your rate comparison shopped among several Independent Insurers. If you can also get two or three Captive insurance quotes you'll be assured you've done a pretty thorough job comparison shopping for your insurance.

Cole, Developer of Low-Insurance.org, provides multiple ways to get car insurance quotes online. Shoppers can either choose to use an online comparison rater of have their quote sent to a single local independent Agent. Shoppers can also request a copy of the quote so they may send it to whoever else the shopper pleases.
